How To Get The Best Travel Bargains On Your Vacation

Normal 0

By Jim Nettleton

There certainly is no denying that traveling these days is a lot more expensive than ever before and the need to find bargains when we vacation or travel on business is extreme. Many families during these times are severely curtailing vacation plans or eliminating them altogether. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

There are many outstanding travel bargains to be found if you just know where to look. Let’s examine a few ways to save money on travel. For more details and information on budget travel, visit my web site through the link in my resource box below.

Airlines

With the cost of jet fuel soaring, higher prices are in effect at all major airlines. In the midst of all this, you can still locate bargains on the web. Many online specials exist, especially if you’re willing to wait until your proposed departure date is near. Browse the airlines’ websites along with Travelocity and Expedia for special pricing. Sometimes the individual airlines will have specials that don’t appear on Travelocity or Expedia, so don’t forget to check them.

Accommodations

You might have to sacrifice a bit here in order to find bargain places to stay. Again, the web is your best friend in tracking down cheaper rates. Rather than reserving space at a pricey hotel, you might be better off staying at a cut-rate motel. After all, you’re on vacation and you’re only going to use the place to sleep. Seek out those that are not adjacent to major attractions, since their rates will be lower.

Cruise Deals

Aim to take that cruise vacation during early fall or the end of summer. You’ll find much better rates. A cruise can be one of the most economical vacations on the planet. The ship is your hotel and food is included. You couldn’t take a vacation as cheaply if you paid for these items separately. Just do a Google search for ‘cheap cruise deals’ and take a look at some of those travel bargains. At the time of this writing I found one, for example, that offers a 7 day Caribbean cruise for as low as $329 per person, or a Canadian adventure for as low as $249 per person. These are amazingly low prices for all-inclusive vacations.

Package Deals

There are many of these available at all times. Travel Agencies purchase in bulk from suppliers and sell to the public at reduced rates. Bear in mind, however, that the quality of package deals can vary widely, so make sure you shop around before finalizing a deal. Remember, too, that if you are planning to travel to a place at a particular date, or have your heart set on a certain destination, it is always advisable to book in advance to avoid any last minute hassles.

If you plan carefully, you can still take that vacation without breaking the bank. A final thing to keep in mind is that these days, it’s a buyer’s market. Vacation destinations need business, cruise lines need business and accommodation vendors, whether hotel or motel also need business. That puts you in the driver’s seat.

What To See And Do When You Stay In Cambridge

When it comes to booking yourself Cambridge vacations, you can visit this very historic town at just about any time of year you want. This university city has lots of different things for you to see and do on your visit. Actually, getting to Cambridge could not be any easier, you have the choice of either getting there by car or bus, by train or by plane, (Stansted Airport is just 20 minutes away).

However, do not expect to see everything of interest in just one day you will really need several to explore it. But along with exploring Cambridge itself, there are plenty of places close by that may be of interest to you as well.

The minds of people such as Charles Darwin and, more recently, Stephen Hawking, have been inspired by the city of Cambridge. If possible, you should endeavor to make the time to visit one of England's oldest universities. During 2009 the university will celebrate 800 years of existence and events will be taking place throughout the year.

Along with wandering around the grounds of the various seats of learning in the city, there are plenty of other things that one can do. It has a great shopping center and some superb bar, restaurants and cafes as well. As for accommodation, there is something to suit all budgets, from luxury hotels through to guesthouses and bed and breakfast houses as well. Plus if your budget is really limited, there are hostels and campsites also.

If you like festivals and similar events, make sure to check your calendar so that you can time your visit to match up with your favorite one. From Shakespeare Season that is held in the gardens of the College during the summer to recitals and concerts which take place in the churches in the city and also in the College chapels.

If you're looking for "culture" during your vacation, you've come to the right place. However, if you want a little more activity there are plenty of leisure facilities available in the city as well. Plus close to Cambridge, there are a couple of good quality golf courses you may want to try. For golfers, you can choose from the Cambridge Lakes Golf Course and the long established Gog Magog Golf Club.

However, if you are bringing children with you to the City then there are plenty of places for them to enjoy as well. Just a few miles away from Cambridge is the Farmland Museum and Denny Abbey. It is a great fun day out for all and will show you how farming technology has developed and the way in which farming has changed.

Above we have looked at few attractions and things that one can do when you stay in Cambridge. Certainly, you may find that a weekend's stay is not sufficient to take in everything that this historic and beautiful city has to offer you.

Check out a wide range of Cambridge hotels here.

Beginners Vacation Packing Tips

Vacation packing can be scary. Packing for your vacation is such a drag :you just want to be whisked away direct to your destination: no packing involved! Not very likely, so read on for my best tips instead.

Vacation Packing Tip#1; If you "might" need it don't take it.
If you are taking something "just in case" or because you "might need it" - leave the item at home. After many years of travel, I am yet to use anything that I took "just in case".

Vacation Packing Tip#2 Put all your Must Have Items on the Bed
Take a real hard look. Then select the half that is most important to pack :put the rest back in the cupboard: you may have the right amount of stuff. If you have problems with this approach put all your "essentials" in a bag and go for a 30 minute walk: see the point now?

Vacation Packing Tip#3 Don't take specialist clothing
Don't take any item of clothing that won't do duel use. If you need a sleep shirt take something that you can sleep in and either use as a beach cover up or as a silky evening top. I have had tankini's with tops that doubled as a an evening top (bra included too nice!).

Vacation Packing Tip#4 Don't take Denim
Denim is never the answer. Its bulky, its hard to clean, it takes forever to dry and it has a certain reputation which will still get you turned away from clubs if you are wearing denim. Leave it at home

Vacation Packing Tip#5 Don't take the Medicine Cabinet
Take a bare minimum of drugs with you. Almost anything can be bought anywhere these days, don't take a month's supply of cold tablets if you are only going away for a week. Pack your prescription medicines, though you may find the generic equivalent for a lot less than at home.

African Family Safari Experiences Are One To Remember

African safari tour

If you are thinking that it is time to plan a major family holiday, and if any of your children were fans of the movie, "The Lion King," then an African family safari can be an adventure that the whole group can enjoy. However, you will have to seek out an African safari tour operation that has both the experience and the inclination to cater to family safaris.

Some of the family-friendly services that are offered by African safari tour companies are baby-sitting, special menus to appeal to the kids, and specially trained guides for the family. Some family safaris will even make arrangements to have special children's activities, such as a bush treasure hunt, African-inspired crafts like bead-making, or bedtime stories told by authentic African storytellers.

Many parents have a concern about taking their kids into areas where they might get malaria or other illnesses. Limiting the family safari to some of the game reserves in South Africa is one option to address those concerns. Another possibility is to undertake a self-drive safari through some of the areas of Namibia as well as South Africa. You will find roads in good shape and can enjoy a more leisurely pace, rather than having an itinerary to follow.

One of the challenges that parents might encounter during a safari is convincing a youngster, who loves to cuddle up with his favorite stuffed lion at home, that the mother lion preening her cubs cannot be petted or even approached. This can be one of the more difficult things to get across, especially for children who have never been on wildlife safaris.

Even with the challenges that are bound to come up, a safari for families is not only possible, but also great fun. As long as family wildlife safaris are undertaken safely and are conducted under the watchful supervision of an experienced safari guide, who knows how to handle and cater to the children in the group, they can be an experience that will provide lifelong memories.

Many parents who have never considered taking African safari holidays with their children in tow might be surprised to learn that family safaris are one of the most popular types of vacations for children, from the ages of four to eighteen. There are many African safari tour operators, African tourist bureaus, and adventuresome parents who have successfully undertaken various Africa safaris with their children and claim that is was the experience of a lifetime for the entire family.

When parents spend a bit of time upfront in choosing the family safari destination and in selecting the safari travel guide they will be depending on, the likelihood is excellent that the vacation will be a grand success for everyone. If you have friends or acquaintances who have been on a safari for the whole family, then ask them for their insights and for contact information of the safari guide they would recommend.

Tipping in Medan Indonesia

Medan North Sumatra

How much to tip in Medan

Before we get into tipping, you may want to know the value of your money in Medan Indonesia, no not just the exchange rates.

Minimum Wage in Medan

This is just a guide to the value of money ( tipping ) in Medan. The standard minimum salary in Medan is around Rp980.000 a month which is around Rp38.000 (USD 4.00 ) a day. Some smaller stores and service industry even pays lower than minimum salary like Rp500.000 / month. So you can measure how much your tips are worth.

There are many times, tourists are the victims of extortion in Indonesia, hence, takes extra precaution. The amount of Rp 50.000 is a big sum as tips in Indonesia, hence do not fall into the trap.

Tipping at Restaurants & Hotels
Many restaurants and Hotels inn Medan have the standard 10% service charge plus tax directly charged to your bill. So technically, you are not required to give any extra.
Nevertheless, if you are feeling well served and generous, you may want to give extra tips to the waiters or waitresses.
There are no hard and fast rules on how much to tip in Medan compared to USA where 25% of your bill is expected.

For restaurants, the standard tipping is around Rp 5.000 to Rp 10.000. You may give more if you bring more guests. Rp20.000 should be a big tip.
Hotel porters and bellboys, probably the same aroung Rp5.000 to Rp10.000 depending on the amount of luggages you have for them to help you with.

Tour & Tour Guide
If you took a Vacation package to Medan, you may be faced with Tour Guides: I would suggests Rp 50.000 each, for the driver and the guide ( for private tours ). This is based on the standard 3D2N tours. If you feel that you would like to show your appreciation, then really it’s up to each individual. If you are traveling on a group tour, then this should be optional.

Taxi Driver:
This is not expected. But sometimes due to the limited amount of change Indonesia such as the Rp100, Rp500 coins. You may just let them keep the change.

Airport:
Although it is clearly stated that the porter charges Rp 2.000 for each bag, many expect more of about Rp5.000 for each bag now (yes they will ask for more).
So be prepared. There was once, I was feeling generous and gave Rp20.000 for 3 bags and they still ask for more!
You will need the help of the porter if you have many luggages.

Remember, tipping in Medan Indonesia should be based on your own appreciation of service you received and your own financial ability. The amount stated here is just a general guide.

Honeymoons

Ok, so you’ve got the dress, you’ve mailed the invitations, you’ve booked a place and a caterer, and now you and your fiancĂ© are thinking about the fun part – the honeymoon!  The first step is to think about your destination.  The next step is probably to choose your resort.  If you are particular about a certain resort, you may need to pick your lodging before your destination – or you might end up switching locations a couple of times.  Often though, trying a new accommodation with you mate is half the fun.  Play around with the choices and don’t forget to keep your options open.  Regardless of the destination decision your hotel accommodations will undoubtedly make a difference.  The following are just a few things to think about when making arrangements for that romantic getaway.

First, choose the location of your exciting and amore-filled vacation.  Do you see yourself sipping Pina Coladas on the beach? Do you want a secluded cabin on the top of a mountain?  Lounging on a cruise in the middle of the ocean?  Want to be seeing shows and playing slot machines in Las Vegas?  Regardless of your destination research the accommodations ahead of time.  Another important thing to think about is budget.  You don’t want to blow all your cash on the room then have to skimp and save on other fun stuff – like shopping and eating!

One way to start focusing on how much you can spend is to create a budget worksheet to help estimate your expenses.  Figure out where you want to go and how many nights you will be able to stay in that location.  How much you can spend per night on the hotel costs alone is another important factor.  If you choose an all-inclusive resort, or cruise line, you can cut the food expense out and increase your hotel rate to even out the costs. Another initial cost when deciding on your lodging accommodations is what type of hotel room do you want?  Are you expecting the Penthouse Suite or content with a regular room with a queen sized bed?  The little details that are important to you make the difference in a once in a life honeymoon.

Once you’ve got these initial questions answered, start hunting for the resort that fits your style.  When you finally decide on the one hotel that matches your taste, or a few hotels for those of you who want to hop around, start booking them.  Remember to try to book as soon as possible.  If you have your heart set on one resort and have done a lot of research to find it, you definitely don’t want to be let down by finding that is already sold out.  Regardless of the destination, your honeymoon is bound to get you skipping down the road of life together with a sentimental start.

USE OF A VACATION

Students heave a sigh of relief and are very happy when the final examinations are over and the vacation begins. A heavy load of studies leaves them practically little or no time to play or pursue the activities of their interests. All the while they are engaged in some mental activity of one type or the other.

But then they are faced with the problem: 'What should 1 do in the vacation?' One thing is very clear. Students should not be burdened with any form of studies during the holidays. They should say good-bye to their books of studies and utilise the entire vacation in pursuing other activities. The nature of these activities would depend upon the surroundings in which a student lives, the facilities available to him and the student's own aptitude and interests. Whatever be the activities pursued, they should invariably contribute to his physical development, and equip him to live a better life as a useful member of society. They should be voluntary, chosen by the student himself and should provide him the most needed diversion, rest and recreation.

A number of such activities may be suggested. First come games-both indoor and outdoor but preferably outdoor. Games like cricket, football, volleyball, badminton, hockey and table tennis as well as Indian games provide recreation with physical exercise. Swimming, bicycle-riding, horse-riding and trekking form another group of activities which provide rigorous physical exercise along with recreation.

Some time may be devoted daily to acquiring some skills like handling a computer, typewriting, shorthand, public speaking, cooking, tailoring, washing, wiring, carpentry or some repair work. Vacation is the best period for pursuing hobbies like reading, writing, music, dancing, painting, stamp-collection, photography, gardening, etc. These hobbies provide necessary diversion from the mental work and are excellent sources of relaxation, recreation, fun and useful knowledge.

For those who want some social activities there are activities like trips and excursions, sports competitions and staging of dramas. Students may offer their services to hospitals, public libraries or the Red Cross. If a student wants to earn as well as to learn, he may take up a part-time vacation job in some store or bank or such other institution.

They will feel fit and ready to pursue their study with renewed vigour when the school or the college reopens after the vacation.

Italy Tips for the First Time Traveler

Italy has always been one of the most popular destinations in Europe. Here are some quick how to tips for Italy

Italy Travel Hints

  • Try to not arrive when everyone else does: June thru September. Instead aim for the shoulder season where the crowds will less, the prices lower and the queues shorter.
  • Pack light - you won't regret it. One small bag that you can easy carry yourself on and off planes, trains and up and down stairs will give you a lot more freedom. Don't expect every hotel to have an elevator - they don't.
  • The majority of long-distance fights arrive either in Roma or Milano: you will get the best priced airfare to these airports. You may get a better over-all cost looking for a cheap flight into London or Amsterdam and then connecting on to Italy using a local European budget airline such as EasyJet or Ryan Air.
  • If you do use a low cost airline check how far out of town the airport they are using is and how much it will cost you to get back into town. Few of the cheaper airports will be as convenient as Rome's Fumcino airport where you can catch the Leonardo Express train to Rome's Termini Station for Euro11
  • Don't worry about not speaking Italian - if you speak French or Spanish you won't have a lot of problem. Even if you don't patience, acting, sign language and a sense of humor will get you a long way.
  • Train Travel. If you are going to use the Eurail pass for discounted train travel within Europe you need to purchase your pass before leaving home. Do you figures carefully though, many of the passes are not good value unless you are traveling from one end of Europe to the other. Also if you are over 26 you will have to travel first class on an Eurail pass while second class is comfortable and available for tickets bought in Italy.
  • Italy has a fairly low rate of crime. Be careful of pickpockets in major cities but there is probably less violent crime than in your home town. Be aware of your surroundings in large train stations and popular tourist sites. The Romans never carry a bag slung over a shoulder but hung diagonally across the body - and you should too.

Enjoy your Italian vacation: hopefully these Italy vacation hints have helped

Greece - one of the best places to retire in the world

Though it may not be as cheap as Spain and Morocco, Greece has still managed to capture the hearts of many to spend their retirement in its notable historical places. Though some historians have considered Greece as the smallest and less important nation in Europe, no one can still deny the fact that Greece is one of the best places to retire-with those known exciting and very alluring island on Piraeus, some parts of Athens, Cyclades, Dodecanese, Crete, Lesbos, Corfu, and many others.

Located in southern Europe, Greece forms an irregular-shaped peninsula in the Mediterranean with two additional large peninsulas projecting from it: the Chalcidice and the Peloponnese. The Greek islands are generally subdivided into two groups, according to location: the Ionian islands (including Corfu, Cephalonia, and Leucas) west of the mainland and the Aegean islands (including Euboea, Samos, Chios, Lesbos, and Crete) to the east and south. North-central Greece, Epirus, and western Macedonia are all mountainous. The main chain of the Pindus Mountains extends from northwest Greece to the Peloponnese. Mount Olympus, rising to 9,570 ft (2,909 m), is the highest point in the country.

The climate is predominantly Mediterranean. Hot, dry summers alternate with cold, rainy winters.

Surprisingly, Greece offers affordable but first class tourist destinations. For retirees who seek affordability but great comfort, Greece is recommended as one of the best places to retire. Internationally known beaches or resorts in Rhodes and Corfu allow tourists, visitors and expatriates to spend around $500 a month with much relative comfort and so much leisure.

Greece may be one of the best countries to retire because of its imposition law on taxes and the determination of the Greek government to be one of the best places to retire in Europe.

Food prices are low from bread to vegetables, which are all low-priced in any place-with Greek oranges about a penny apiece. Butter is cheaper than those in the United States. Almost everything is available at lower prices. And the bonus is, on the island of Rhodes, there are no import taxes, as part or most probably the result of a government measure to attract tourists and consequently as means of bargains for those who want to spend their retirement in Greece. No wonder why for the last two decades, Greece has been consistent in the lists of the best places to retire in the world.

Greek houses and apartments are cheap as well for it is not up to the American standards. Most of the local folks and residents are still dwelling in houses erected five hundred years ago.

Everyone will agree that apart from cheap prices this place unfolds many scenic spots with its charming island, pleasant people, and of course, the overlooking town of Rhodes, which is considered to be the most beautiful city in the world.

History or even Plato, Homer, Aristotle, and Sophocles would remind us that this city highly popularized in the epic Trojan War is indeed a beautiful place to live in. The walls that still surround it are in good shape or even strong enough to face another siege at this point in time.

What most tourists or visitors and expatriates would really like about Greece is the atmosphere of Rhodes being ancient and highly a semblance of the place or house of Gods. Its streets are still in cobblestones and you can find shops here were you could buy the best and durable kind of bread, wine and olive oil, and little taberna for a glass of beer or retsina wine.

Rhodes’ parks are more beautiful than they seem to be, with parks that surround the moats of the fortress walls are abloom with flowers all year around and are particularly heavily splashed with reds.

Greece has a government-funded healthcare system, and government policy and the provision of public health services are key drivers in the demand for medical equipment. The public sector accounts for 70 percent of total medical purchases in Greece, mainly by public hospitals.

This is just a small sample of what makes Greece a fixture on those "best country to retire" lists.

Keswick Attractions: Things To See And Do In Keswick

The town of Keswick is situated between Skiddaw and Derwentwater and is one of the major locations where tourists to area will often stay. Because of this, there are a wide variety of Keswick attractions that visitors to the town can enjoy. There are plenty of hotels and guest houses in Keswick.

The market town of Keswick was first granted its market charter back in 1276 by Edward I and even today, a market still takes place in it every Saturday. However, when the town was first being settled it was located at Crosthwaite, which is located on the western side of the town today. The Church at Crosthwaite was the first to be built in 553AD and was called St Kentigern and was where Canon Rawsley (co-founder of the National Trust) was vicar from 1883 to 1917.

The National Trust owns and protects much of the land surrounding Keswick. This is why Keswick and the surrounding area hasn't changed much over the years. There are many attractions across the town, including the famous Pencil Museum, as well as other attractions in the surrounding area. Here are some of the better known.

1. Ashness Bridge – This is one of the most photographed locations in all of the Lake District. From here, you can see right the way across Derwentwater to Keswick and on to Skiddaw. if you can, do your best to visit at sunrise or sunset. You'll miss most tourists and get the best views. You'll get a spectacular photo opportunity here.

2. Castlerigg Stone Circle – There are any of these to be found in locations around the British Isles and is one of the most accessible. Of all the stone circles to be found in the area of Cumbria, England this is the most popular and dates from around 3,000BC. No-one is certain why the circle was built but of course that doesn't stop people speculating. Some believe it is a burial site whilst others believe it was built to be used as an astronomical observatory. However, the reason why most people enjoy visiting this location is because of its peace and tranquillity.

3. Derwentwater – This is a 3-mile long lake situated close to Keswick and probably the best way to enjoy it is by either hiring a rowing boat or hopping on one of the motor launches. The tours on the launches are run by Keswick Launch and take you to Ashness Gate, Loddre, High and Low Brandelhow, Hawes and Nichol End. If you want to see the lake from it's shores, there are a wide variety of well marked paths for you to enjoy.

In this article, we have taken a close look at some of the more popular Keswick attractions that people to the town enjoy. However, there are plenty of other fascinating and interesting places for one to visit as well as things to do whilst staying in Keswick.

How Private Jet Rentals Help Consumers Beat the Airport Lines

There was a time when flying a commercial airline meant luxury. Today, air travel has become a game of the cheapest and airlines are cutting back seating room, fuel and even charging their customers for that miniature soda offered in flight. When a consumer wants to bring the luxury back to their air travel, private jet rentals are an affordable option.

Taking into consideration the cost of a first class flight, the private jet rental may actually be less expensive than a commercial flight. First class does not hold the clout it used to and a thin curtain is all that separates the business and coach customers from the 1st class seating. Private jets are taking these commercial changes and offering the consumer an option in luxury. With the introduction of Very Light Jets, a private jet rental option, consumers can actually pay less money to fly to their destination without the hassles of a commercial air service.

There are limitations to these private jet rentals, however. Many private jets offer a shorter range of flight. The cost of the flight may be cheaper, but the distance traveled is also limited by fuel holding power in very light private jet rentals.

In exchange for the distance lost, the flyer cuts down the time spent in the airport dramatically. On a commercial flight, you need to arrive at the airport at least 2 hours in advance. These extra hours are there in order for the consumer to check in, check their baggage (which may cost them upwards of $25 a bag or more), and make it through security. After the flight, even more time is spent waiting for baggage and securing the rental car. A short 45 minute flight can take up an entire day when all the consumer wanted was to fly from point A to point B. Private jet rentals take this confusion out of flying.

For the consumer who needs to fly longer distances, the private jet rental will certainly cost more than the commercial flight, but the return of luxury and the ability to include your toe nail clippers in your carry-on luggage may be worth the extra money.

As more and more commercial airlines find their way into bankruptcy, the cost of commercial flights will continue to rise. Today, the consumer has an option. The private jet rentals once reserved for the rich and the famous are now being booked by the everyday Joe to bring luxury and ease back to flying.

London And New York Boutique Hotels

It is becoming increasingly common to see that many of the new, smaller, hotels are describing themselves as a "Boutique Hotel". Across the city of London, the capital city of England in the United Kingdom, there are now a small number of superb boutique hotels but what exactly is a "Boutique Hotel" and where did they first appear? This article discusses this question in detail.

Boutique hotels are usually small hotels run by a family, couple or small enterprise. However, there has been a recent trend for some of the larger hotel chains to build hotels to meet the specific demand for these hotels so this distinction may not hold true for much longer! Nearly all boutique hotels are uniquely styled to a high quality, especially in the decoration and furnishings, and commonly based upon a theme (such as a period in time). Such themes can range from a hotel decorated and furnished in the 17th Century style to one which is focused on chocolate for avid chocoholics. Not all boutique hotels are based upon one particular theme, sometimes there may be a number of distinctive themes or each room may be styled in a contrasting them altogether.

Where Was The First Boutique Hotel?

Boutique hotels first appeared in the late 1980s in New York USA. Although some hotels claim to have been boutique hotels as far back as 1981 in places such as London UK and San Francisco the first hotel to be described as such was the 'Morgans' hotel, New York, in 1984. These earlier claimants were, therefore, subsequently described as such and can not, realistically, claim to be the first.

'Morgans' hotel  was owned by Steven Rubell and Ian Schrager who had commissioned the Parisian designer AndrĂ©e Putman to create a unique, highly stylized, hotel in New York.  Putman created the hotel in what has become known as an "America meets Europe" fashion. In promoting his hotel Steven Rubell wished to set his hotel apart from, what he considered to be, the plain and boring hotels of the larger chains. He described other hotels as "department store" hotels and his own as a "boutique hotel" to show the distinctive difference - thus the phrase entered the English language for the first time.

Interesting Boutique Hotels in the United Kingdom

42 The Calls (hotel) in Leeds claims to be one of the first to appear in the UK. The Calls was a hotel built in the carcass of an old corn mill and used that as the overall theme. Adding interest to the hotel is the fact that they have retained some of the original corn mill machinery but the hotel is also known for its wonderfully crafted hand made beds which appear in each room.

The Blake's Hotel in South Kensington, London, is often quoted as being one of the first boutique hotels in the world but, although this appeared before Morgans in New York, for the reasons outlined above this claim is often dismissed. Ever since the first boutique hotels appeared they have spread across the United Kingdom until they recently reached the remote island of Harris, where a boutique hotel recently opened in the small village of Tarbert, however the vast majority are to be found in London.

If you are planning a trip to, or a vacation in, London and you are considering booking a boutique hotel you may wish to check out the listings of boutique hotels in London at http://www.londonhotelhelper.com/

Jet Lag Is Inevitable If You Are A Frequent Flier

Coping with jet lag is not too hard for those of us who jet off around the world infrequently, perhaps once or twice a year on vacation or for the odd business trip, but for regular long-haul fliers and aircrews, jet lag frequently brings a number of health problems which can become virtually permanent.

Long-haul travelers will be more than familiar with the interference with their pattern of sleep and the insomnia that can be produced by a long trip, as well as such things as irritability, changes in mood, stomach problems and difficulty in processing information. However, for very frequent fliers these normally transient symptoms are a part of daily life and are often joined by menstrual cycle problems for women and even by short-term psychiatric problems for a number of people. So how do you go about managing jet lag?

The main factors which influence the degree of jet lag which you experience, aside from the frequency of travel, are the distances involved, the direction of travel and your age.

If you frequently travel across just two or three world time zones then any affects will probably be extremely mild. However, once you begin to cross more than three world time zones, and particularly once you begin frequently traveling across six or more time zones, symptoms will start to markedly increase.

Jet lag symptoms are also far more obvious when you travel east and tend to affect you less if you fly west. For example, if you are traveling from London to Singapore on holiday you will experience greater jet lag when you arrive in Singapore at the beginning of your holiday than you will in London when you get home.

Generally when you fly east you can expect jet lag to last for several days and a good guide here is roughly two thirds of the number of time zones traveled across. For instance, if you cross six time zones you might expect jet lag to affect you for about four days. If you are traveling west jet lag may be expected to last about half this time.

Another important element when it comes to jet lag is age and, as you get older, you will discover that you are affected more and more by jet lag.

A true jet lag cure does not exist but there is a lot that you can do to help in reducing the symptoms of jet lag.

London Offers The Finest Shopping Experience

The capital city of England is London, which is as famous for its shopping as it is for its history and culture. People from all over the world flock to London to sample the wonderful stores and markets on offer.

Covent Garden has become known for its unusual and specialist shops, and has become a very hip place to be seen. There are a number of excellent restaurants in Covent Garden not just excellent shops. The origins of Covent Garden market can be traced back to the middle ages and, until 1980, it was famous for the many stalls which sold vegetables and fruit as well as flowers.

Camden Market is now one of the most popular places to visit in London. There has been a markets here in Camden for a long time, but in its present status only since 1974. The market is actually a number of adjoining markets selling wares of most things one can imagine.

The Kings Road is known as Chelsea's high street, and one of the most chic and stylish streets to shop in London. Back in the 1970s the Kings Road was closely associated with 'Punks', who proved to be an attraction in London themselves. However, the Kings Road is more subdued these days and no longer just a haunt of the followers of the anti-fashion era.

Sloane Street is a street in London which runs north to south, and takes its name from Sir Hans Sloane, who purchased the surrounding area in 1712. Sloane Street has has, for a long time, been a fashionable shopping district, but is probably just as well known for lending it name to the 'Sloane Rangers' in the 1990s. The name Sloane Ranger was applied to the stereotypical young upper class English ladies seen in the area during this time. (One famous woman often referred to as a Sloane Ranger was Lady Diana Spencer)

Harrods department store in Knightsbridge is the worlds largest department store standing on 18,000 m2. The Harrods motto is 'Omnia Omnibus Ubique'  meaning all things for all people, everywhere'. A very exclusive and luxurious department store, Harrods is famous the world over for its food hall and its toy department.

Another famous London department store is Selfridges in Oxford Street. In 1909 and american businessman called Gordon Selfridge opened the doors of his London shop to the public which is simply known as "Selfridges". When it opened Selfridges set new standards for the retailing business. The reason being that each of the floors were designed so that the shopper was able to access the goods on sale more easily.

The shops in London offer as much diversity as its culture and no matter how bizarre ones shopping requirements, it can be found in London. Whether you like to shop in department stores or prefer to rummage through the markets, London has it all.

If you are planning a shopping trip to London you will find plently of cheap London hotels listed at www.londonhotelhelper.com

How China May be Your Perfect Vacation Destination And Provide A Wealth Of Bewitching Places To See

For anyone who is considering travel for a vacation, the idea of an international getaway can be both thrilling and overwhelming. Leaving the country entails certain forms of identification and paperwork, health considerations, the risks of an unfamiliar location and many types of misunderstandings that can result from differences of culture and language. On the other hand, international travel is a great way to gain first-hand experience about another country and its people. Even novice travelers can find great group travel packages or tour groups that can allow a tourist to experience a foreign country without the danger of getting completely lost. In the field of worldwide tourism, China is gaining popularity as a holiday destination, and there are several reasons to consider putting this engrossing country on your itinerary.

Seeing The Sights In China

By far the most famous tourist destination in China is the Great Wall, a construction that stretches over four thousand miles across China. While the wall is well known worldwide, not every section of the Great Wall of China is readily accessible to tourists. Some parts of the wall run through sparsely populated or rural areas, and many sections of the Great Wall have fallen into disrepair. However, there are efforts to conserve and maintain this historical treasure, some parts of which are over two thousand years old. Originally built as a fortification to repel invaders, the Great Wall now attracts visitors from around the world. In particular, the Badaling section of the Great Wall has been restored and is a great favorite with visitors.

While the Great Wall is a popular man-made holiday destination, the Yangtze River is an incredible natural attraction that also has interesting man-made features. The third longest river in the world, the Yangtze River is also China’s largest and stretches from the plateau of Tibet to the ocean at Shanghai. The river has historically been important in commerce as a means of transporting goods, and the river currently is notable for the Three Gorges Dam, the largest dam in world that produces hydroelectric power. There are many tourism agencies that provide tours and cruises on the Yangtze River, and the Three Gorges Dam is successful as a tourist destination as well as a source of alternative power.

Preparing To Travel In China

Before you plan your vacation in China, you should be aware of the health conditions in the regions you will be visiting. Some areas of China are extremely modern, while others are remote and rural. Your doctor should be able to give you an idea of any inoculations or health tests you will need, and you should also have an idea of whether you will be participating in a lot of vigorous physical activity on your trip. As long as you take reasonable precautions and plan ahead of time, you can make your vacation in China a source of great memories that last a lifetime.

Brazil is one of the best places to live in the world

When you think of Brazil, a lot of things come with it. Football, Reggae, Capoeira, Havaianas and nice smiling people and places are just some of the things you can think of when Brazil is mentioned.  Read on to discover why Brazil is one of the best places to live

Brazil is South America’s largest and the most populous country.  Brazil was under the rule of Portugal for three centuries, became an independent nation in 1822 and became a republic in 1889. Right now, Brazil’s economy by far outweighs most South American countries.

Brazil has a very diverse topography, here you have hills, mountains and beaches. Climate is fairly warm, while most of the country is considered tropical and is covered by the Amazon Rainforest, the southern part can have temperature that goes as low as 18 degrees Celsius. Brazil has a coastline that stretches to up to 5000 miles, giving both locals and tourist a choice list of beaches well-worth of your visits.

There are a lot of things about Brazil that encourage tourists, immigrants and even retirees to consider this country as their second home. Expats, 50 years old and above with a monthly pension equivalent to 2,000 USD can easily provide for himself and his family a vacation home in this South American country. The Brazilian government offers incentives to retirees receiving 2,000 USD monthly pensions who are looking for somewhere to spend their golden years.

Families vacationing in Brazil would not cease to think about so much fun they have in Brazil that many of them decide to take it to the next level and search for a place they can call their own in this lovely country. Think about having the same value for goods and services, yes you got it right here in Brazil. You can have your own home  in as soon as a month, take your pick – a beach house in Rio de Janeiro maybe?

Once you get settled in Brazil, the Ministry of Health provides health coverage for all employed persons in industry, domestic servants and self-employed while public employees have a separate system. Workers in Brazil are all eligible for medical benefits including medical and dental treatments, hospitalization and medicines. Their dependents also can receive the same benefits as the insured.

Brazilian tax legislation provides that taxes may be imposed on income and capital gains earned by individuals residing in Brazil from sources abroad, as well as income and capital gains received in Brazil by individuals residing abroad. When you start working in Brazil, or once you become a resident taxpayer, individual income tax is due both under withholding basis and yearly return.

Brazil is the only Latin country in South America that takes after Portugal for their language. Portuguese is a beautiful yet difficult to learn language. If you are worried about this one issue, think again, Brazilians are always helpful and friendly. You’d never lack translation from people who would always do what they can to accommodate. People can just draw you in here in Brazil, Think about beautiful scenery with genuinely nice people and true personal freedom.  These are some of the reasons why Brazil is one of the best countries to live.

What To Consider When Looking For Last Minute Travel Discounts

Some of the best buys in travel are last minute travel discounts.  If you can bring yourself to wait until just before your planned vacation time to search last minute travel discounts, or if you are extremely flexible about when you travel, here are some tips for finding the best travel deals for you.

Consider picking a travel “theme” and search for last minute travel discounts to fill that bill.  The possible list of destinations helps you to think outside the box as you search for last minute travel discounts.  If you find yourself on the links every weekend and can’t get enough, search the travel sites for last minute discounts on prime golf courses or courses in interesting places. The gardener in you might appreciate last minute travel discounts to nationally-acclaimed arboretums and gardens, in addition to as to places of natural flora and fauna.  If you love to shop but are tired of your usual stomping ground for shoes and handbags use your vacation time to explore Denver or New York City to reinvigorate your interest.  You may find that off-season travel to these places gives you even better last minute travel discounts.

Another way to make searching for last minute travel discounts fun and compelling in itself is to make your travel educational.  You can look for last minute travel discounts for seeing the monuments and museums in Washington DC, for example. This comprises a great family vacation and the attractions are almost all free.  All of the museums are free and many have hands-on or special exhibits that will drive your kids wild with excitement.  (You can see the largest cut diamond in the world in the Museum of Natural History; while just down the hall your kids’ will thrill over a real mummy.  And then there’s the Air and Space Museum and the Smithsonian Castle.  So much for no money at all.)

Why Planning Is All Important For Your Perfect Disney Trip With The Children

For a family with children, few vacations could be more desirable than a trip to Walt Disney World, a park famous for enchanting children with its rides, cartoon characters and other amazing attractions. But Disney World is now a park that has features to interest parents and all grown-ups as well as children, and a well-planned Disney vacation can truly be a great time for the whole family.

Ways To Plan Your Disney Trip

One of the easiest ways to plan a Disney World getaway is to work with a travel agent who has experience with family vacations and family-themed parks. If ease and convenience are high on your list of priorities, you will want to look for an all-inclusive package that provides admission to the parks, hotel accommodations, meals and any transportation that you might need. Depending on how much money you are willing to spend, you might be able to find accommodations within the park itself. Planning ahead will be crucial for these kinds of hotel reservations, and you should make sure that your travel dates are final well in advance. If staying in the park is not an option, there are many opportunities to find hotel rooms or suites near Disney World. Should you find yourself staying in a hotel near the park, you might have access to shuttle service to the park. However, it is important to find out before you finalize your vacation plans whether or not shuttle service or public transportation will be available so that you can make arrangements for a rental car if that will be necessary.

In some cases, you might be able to find a Disney vacation package that also includes airfare for your family. In this case, pre-planning is very important because many flights to popular vacation destinations fill quickly. For families where one or more of the parents or other accompanying adults have a limited amount of vacation time off from work, it will be important to determine the vacation time far enough in advance to ensure that you can get airplane tickets for your optimal travel dates.

Attractions At The Disney Parks

The famous images of Disney World, including children posing for pictures with performers costumed as popular Disney cartoon characters, now share the stage with some of the best amenities and most fantastic rides in the country. Of course, there are nonetheless photo opportunities, rides, games and merchandise associated with Disney’s world-famous films and characters. But now guests could also visit an Animal Park, the Hollywood Studios Park and even a water park.

If you only have a few days for your Disney vacation, you will want to savor every moment. Planning ahead of time can help you be convinced that you will make the most of your trip. Information about Disney’s parks are available online, and you should spend some time getting ready for your vacation by finding out what attractions are available, what the costs are and how to organize your trip so that you won’t waste any of your time or money.

An Experience Of A Lifetime Awaits You From African Safari Tours

luxury safari

There are many people for whom the entire continent of Africa holds a special attraction that calls out and draws them to the land. In Africa, there are sounds, sights and even smells that uniquely depict a land that is mostly unspoiled by modern interventions. African safari tours provide adventuresome travelers with the opportunity to connect with this country and experience things, which simply cannot be replicated by just thumbing through a photo collection or even watching movies.

Even the very best of documentaries about the African continent, the people, the culture and the wildlife cannot begin to compare to the experience of being on an African safari tour and being able to breathe in the very essence of the unique existence of Africa. Many people who return from such trips say that is it a once in a lifetime experience that they have trouble putting into words.

In this day and age, it is possible to participate in any of a number of different types of African safari tours. People can choose a tour that is based in just one country, or a more extensive tour that takes in several countries, such as a South Africa safari or an East Africa safari. There are also specialty safaris that are designed to appeal to various interests.

There are also family safari tours that are specially designed for families that have younger children, teens or pre-teens. For couples who don't have children yet, perhaps a luxury safari would be a better option. This type is even appropriate for an exciting, romantic honeymoon getaway that will be memorable in many ways.

In addition, an African safari tour can be arranged especially for those people who are in their senior years. Usually, these types of safaris entail less strenuous demands and provide more comfortable accommodations, allowing the participants to view the wildlife from vehicles rather than having to tromp through the underbrush to catch glimpses of various animals. While this means that there might be less variety of animals to observe, these types of safari holidays allow people with physical limitations to still enjoy the experience an African safari offers.

Overall, the major benefit of African safari tours is that the safari travel company, based on their years of experience, is able to put together a complete itinerary of places and things that one simply must see in the area of their expedition. This makes an African safari tour an excellent way to be introduced to Africa and allows the adventurers the ability to take in the various landscapes, cultures, people and wildlife that will be encountered during their trip to Africa.

Many companies offer African safari tours and safari holiday packages to different countries of the continent. In most cases, a safari guide and travel company will specialize in a specific region and the packages that they offer will rarely include areas outside of their specialty. Because of this, it is helpful to identify the area where you want to take your African safari first, and then do the research to find the right company.

Lake Toba Largest Crater Lake in Medan

Medan Indonesia

Medan City

Kota Medan City is the third largest in Indonesia. Located in North Sumatra ( Sumatera Utara ) of Indonesia with a population of 2.5 millions residents. It is said that during day time, the population of Medan City will grow to about 4 millions with people coming from suburbs.

The unique thing about Medan is that, it resides the largest volcanic lake in world known as Lake Toba which is twice the size of it neighboring country of Singapore.

History of Medan City

Medan started as a village called Kampung Medan (Medan Village). Kampung Medan was founded by Guru Patimpus around the 1590s. Because Medan Village sits on Tanah Deli (Land of Deli), Kampung Medan is also referred as Medan-Deli. The original location of Medan Village is an area where the Deli River meets Babura River.

Based on the diary of the Portuguese merchant in early 16th century, it stated that the name of Medan was actually derived from Medina which is actually a holy city in the western of Saudi Arabia. But, other sources indicated that the name of Medan actually came from Indian language “Meiden”. One of the Karo-Indonesia dictionary written by Darwin Prinst SH published in 2002 wrote that Medan could also be defined as “recover” or “be better”.

The first inhabitants of Kota Medan came from the Batak Karo community. It was not until the Sultan of Aceh, Sultan Iskandar Muda, sent his warlord, Gocah Pahlawan Laksamana Khoja Bintan, to be the Sultanate of Aceh’s representative in Tanah Deli, that the Sultanate of Deli started to grow. This growth enhanced growth in both the population and culture of Medan. In the second year reign of Sultan Deli (between 1669-1698), there was a cavalry battle in Medan.

Medan did not experience significant development till the 1860s, when the Dutch colonialists began clearing the land for tobacco plantations. Medan quickly became a center of government and commercial activity, dominating development of Indonesia’s western region.

The Dutch governed Tanah Deli from 1658, after Sultan Ismail, ruler of the Kingdom of Siak Sri Indrapura, yielded some of his once-ruled land, Deli, Langkat, and Serdang. In 1915 Medan officially became the capital of North Sumatra Province, and officially a city in 1918.

With the largest volcanic lake in the world, Medan Sumatra Lake is city worth visiting for your vacation spots in Asia Indonesia

The Malt Whisky Trail

Aberdeen offers an explosion of wonderful scenery from an unspoilt harbour on its eastern coast to the magnificent Grampian Mountains in the west. With so so many sights to take in, it's well worth the cost to get a hire car from Aberdeen Airport. Since it's the third largest city in Scotland, expect Aberdeen to offer a diversity of cosmopolitan merits from the arts to sites of historical interest and endless shopping possibilities. This area of Aberdeen and the Grampians is responsible for that magnet for discerning drinkers everywhere, the Malt Whisky Trail. When you have recovered from sampling the malts of eight distilleries, then it's time to follow the Castle Trail amidst the breathtaking views of this wonderful region. There is a whole host of activities such as fishing, golf, skiing, whisky tasting and a whole lot more on offer here in The Grampian Highlands.

Don't be surprised to find some form of celebration or festival to be taking place whilst you are in Aberdeen. Tourists and locals regularly meet to celebrate the region’s past with traditional entertainment and events like the Lonach Highland Gathering and Games. Locally known as the “Friendly Games” the Games are held annually on the 4th Saturday of August at Strathdon in Aberdeenshire. Other events worth attending whilst visiting Aberdeen include, the Aberdeen Jazz Festival (March), the Braemar Telemark Festival  (March), the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival (April-May), the Scottish Traditional Boat Festival (June), The Wickerman, Tartan Day and the Stonehaven Fireball Festival. The Stonehaven festival is one of few remnants of an east coast fire festival traditionally held to see in the New Year. You will find a huge selection of discounted Aberdeen hotels

The new part of Aberdeen known as the "Granite City" offers superb granite buildings and a wonderful range of superb restaurants, top class shopping and a very lively social calendar whenever you arrive. Coincidentally, if Aberdeen has such a wealth of riches, why are its own people recognised as internationally well travelled? Why would they want to ever leave this wonderful city? They say that you never to appreciate what is already yours but the truth is that Aberdonians are able to look more forward to coming home more than most of us. Who could blame them? They have everything! A pleasant climate, sandy beaches, the Lemon Tree (Aberdeen's own perpetual Festival Fringe), pretty streets, warm friendly people, fishing villages worthy of a place on a postcard and Union Street where you find a vast array of shops, as well as three shopping malls!

Aberdeen is famously nicknamed the "City of Roses" with good reason. A popular landmark and attraction in these parts is that of Duthie Park's Rose Hill with over 12,000 different brilliant colours and assortments of Rose.

Aberdeen’s old town district has a historic air about it. The area known as Old Aberdeen is a preserved site, which was once a single burgh. Here you will encounter its cobbled high street with Provost Ross's House, the Aberdeen Art Gallery, the harbour and many other places of interest within close proximity of one another. Don't miss a chance to explore Aberdeen University’s ancient King's College with its fifteenth century chapel and fixtures.

Whilst in Aberdeen a lot of visitors are interested in the relationship between the city and North Sea. For a number of years North Sea oil reserves have played a huge part in the growth and prosperity as well as devastating losses of life in the region. Visitors can pay their respects at the Piper Alpha Memorial, a memorial garden found in Hazelhead Park dedicated to the loss of 167 North Sea oil workers lost in the 1988 tragedy. For further information about oil exploration in the North Sea, the 5 Star Maritime Museum situated on the Shiprow, offers exhibitions on the fascinating subject well as an in depth insight to earlier (but equally as dangerous) forms of fishing and shipping in the region.

On the map, the area around Aberdeen and the Grampians appears very compact. This is deceiving.  In actual fact, there is a huge expanse of territory to cover with generous servings of attractions at every corner and much will be missed if limited to public transport. Cycling out in the Aberdonian countryside is amazing and highly recommended for all able-bodied souls. For the rest of us,  swapping two wheels for four and exploring the glorious surrounding from behind the wheel of  a rental car from Dyce Airport has many attractions. For the fresh air lovers hiking is a highly enjoyable way to explore beautiful landscapes “off the beaten track”.

The Grampian Highlands

Walking is possibly the premier activity of the Grampians with so much to explore and virgin vistas which can only be found when travelling on foot. Hikers can enjoy a diverse landscape challenge from the exposed coastline to the high altitudes of the Grampian and Cairngorm mountains. If you are looking for an active pursuits holiday the Grampians region of Scotland will not let you down! The offerings are wide and varied from gliding to water sports and cycling to horse riding. Another exciting possibility is off-road driving as well as exploring Scotland's official Long Distance footpaths.

Make your way to Balmoral and in an instant you'll see why Queen Victoria memorably called this magical estate her "Paradise". Built as a holiday destination for the British Royal Family, it is now enjoyed by lots of (non-royal) guests for its world famous sporting activities such as game fishing in the River Dee and cycle races across the Royal estate.

Across at the coast there are some superb facilities for water sports. A notable event is that of the annual yacht race to Stavanger and back. The marina at Peterhead is very popular with visiting yachtsmen whilst sailing enthusiasts make for Findhorn on the Moray Firth.
